Zombies- Shannon Seeley

There are many ideas that people ponder in the world, one of which is the existence of Zombies. Whether someone is simply curious about Zombies, or they are convinced that they exist, there are still many pending questions that are out there to answer. The idea of zombie existence has been widely debated and thoroughly discussed. In an article by Bernard Deiderich and Claudia Wallis in Time Magazine, that analyzed Zombies existence, Dr. Lamarque Douyon, a theorist on their existence argues, that people are poisoned by a coma-inducing toxin creating an unconscious state, "poisoned in such a way that his [Narcisse] vital signs could not be detected." (Deiderich and Wallis, 1).
Though there are some who believe in zombies concievability, there are also those who believe in their non-existence. Robert Kirk, argues there exitence extensively relying on the theory of physicilism. In an article that Kirk wrote he argues that "Zombies would be like us in all physical respects, but without physical consiousness. It is widely agreed that if zombies are possible, phyiscalism is false (Kirk, 1). He argues that the existence of Zombies counters the idea of e-qualia (Kirk, 1). This represents only one of the arguments countering their existence.

Constructing A Research Log

Topic
For my topic I chose to write about the ethical treatment of animals, specifically factory farms and slaughter houses. I chose this topic because it is something that I feel passionately about. The conditions the animals live in at factory farms where they are mass produced and then the treatment they receive at slaughter houses is inhumane and unethical. We should not be mass producing and harming different species just as a means of economic growth.

2.sift through research: use points with most credibility, connect with topic, provide useful facts and details about topic
3.compose and outline: organized, include examples, detailed
4. write paper (rough draft)
5. revise paper (final draft)
6. turn in :)

Advertisement Strategies

This advertisement for Bud Light beer uses several strategies to entice the viewer.  The first thing that you see when looking at the ad is a crisp cold beverage, anyone seeing this can tell that it is meant to look refreshing.  The next thing that your attention is drawn to is the caption below the bottle that says "hit your refresh button" this makes the reader think that no matter what they are going to feel refreshed after drinking this.  The creator of the advertisement made the bottle of beer the main emphasis by placing it in the center of the ad and made the only main focal point.  By doing this the creator ensured that the first thing you were going to see was a cool refreshing beverage.  The ice behind the bottle is another reference to feeling refreshed and "cool".

responses to questions 5 and 6 ooops

5. I am most proud of my introductory paragraph, I think it is my strongest paragraph. I gave background to my topic and clearly stated my thesis. I also enjoyed writing this paragraph most, it flowed well and I think it turned out good.
6.For the paragraph that I am least proud of I chose my conclusive paragraph. It was hard for me to paraphrase and rephrase all of my points in that short of space. I feel that my conclusion is weak and that I could have written a more strong one. I have never been that great at conclusion paragraphs, but they are something that I am looking forward to progress on.

Rhetorical Analysis Assesment

1.For this assignment we were supposed to find a political cartoon or an advertisement and analyze them using our knowledge on rhetoric. We were descriptively supposed to describe the cartoon or ad and give our thoughts as to why the artist chose to depict what they did and how they did it.
2.The main point of my paper is the correlation between high oil prices and the inflation of food prices and the threat that it is creating for people.
3.The main audience for my paper is my teacher, but also anyone else who is interested in reading it. I have taken this into consideration in that I have used a formal style of writing to present my paper in a sophisticated way.
4.In my essay I tried to organize the paragraphs in a way that was clear and represented my message the best. I discussed the points that I thought were most important towards the beginning and the ones that I felt had less importance at the end. I took this into consideration because I feel it would be more capturing for audience if points which provided the most interest came first.

7.The process for writing this paper was overall easy. I began writing it one night and was able to get a little over half of it done, I then came back to it the next day and was able to almost completely finish it. After the revision I wrote my conclusion which was probably the hardest part for me, though I don't know why, I just didn't know how to clearly and without being to wordy rewrite my main points. I had fun dissecting the political cartoon, looking for all of the things that connected back to my thesis. By studying the cartoon so thoroughly I was able to pick out every last detail that I thought possible, and I enjoyed doing this.

Print Ad Rhetorical Appeals

This ad displays all three forms of rhetorical appeals. The source has ethos credibility because the North Dakota Department of Health certifies the ad. The logos appeal of the ad is the fact that it can happen to you therefore it must have happened sometime in the past to someone. The source also has pathos credibility because it uses the worrisome facial expressions of the models to draw out emotion. It also has kairos because we can trust the fact the North Dakota Department of Health is a credible source.
